Котловина Уран Тогоо
In Central Mongolia, to the right of the main road leading to Lake Khövsgöl, are four extinct volcanic basins: Uran, Tulag, Togo, and Zhalavch. The last eruption of these volcanoes occurred approximately 20,000-25,000 years ago. The Uran Togo basin is located at an altitude of 1,686 meters above sea level in a picturesque steppe area. The volcano's slope is covered with vegetation and a larch forest, where volcanic rocks are scattered everywhere. The climb to the summit, which offers a beautiful view, is gentle and short. This is especially true in the summer, when the steppe is covered with a vibrant green carpet. The crater's radius is 500-600 meters, and its depth is 1.5 meters. You can stroll through the crater, admire and enjoy nature. During the rainy season, a small lake forms at the bottom of the crater, surrounded by abundant greenery, where even trees grow. The remaining basins are located 12 km northwest of it. The crater of the Tulag basin (1,540 m) is fractured in three places. The crater of the Togoo volcano (1,620 m) is 400 m in diameter and 100 m deep, unbroken and solid. Zhalavch is located at an altitude of 1,560 m. In 1965, the territory of 5,800 hectares of land and the basins within it were placed under state protection.
In addition to larch, poplar, aspen, and birch grow and are inhabited by deer, argali, wild boar, ibex, marmots, brown hares, and other animals. During the cold season, these animals live in the volcanic crater in the warmth and gases rising from the depths.
